Decarbonisation Strategy

We understand the growing imperative for Australian operations to transition towards a low-carbon economy. With our expertise in decarbonisation and corporate strategy, we are uniquely positioned to guide your organisation in achieving ambitious yet realistic decarbonisation targets. Loop can assist with: - Strategy development - Decarbonisation peer review - Policy and regulation advice Developing a decarbonisation strategy for an organisation and/or operation is essential to ensure the pathway forward targets the lowest cost abatement while optmising production.

Emissions Reduction Pathways

Following the development of a decarbonisation strategy, the operational pathway is developed. This process is developed iteratively with the operational management team to ensure a fit-for-purpose pathway forward. This includes: - Develop a base case for the LOM plan across all GHG emissions streams (fugitive, fuel and power) - Site-based opportunity assessment workshop to develop preliminary abatement projects - Financial and carbon modelling - Prioritisation of projects through marginal abatement cost curves to determine the optimal pathway forward The go-forward projects will be developed as studies to take forward into execution.

Gas Reservoir Characterisation & Strategy

The gas reservoir of an open cut coal mine is the source of fugitive greenhouse gas emissions. Understanding the gas reservoir is essential for defining the decarbonisation strategy going forwards, as fugitive emissions represent a significant source of Scope 1 emissions in open cut coal mining. Gas reservoir characterisation includes: - Gas content and composition - Seam development - Gas reservoir saturation - Permeability - Access constraints Once complete, a gas reservoir production model can be developed to inform the drainage plan and support Method 2 NGERS reporting.

Engineering, Studies & Program Approvals

Integrating a new process into an active open cut operation requires a significant level of study. Our in-house expertise can deliver the following workstreams: - Health, safety, and environmental management systems and risk - Safeguard compliance management - Facilitation of necessary approvals - Change management - Operational integration - Mine planning impacts and life of mine (LOM) plan integration We manage the full studies process to deliver a “drill-ready” solution.

Drilling, Drainage, Project Management & Reporting

Leveraging our gas production model, Loop develops a detailed drilling design to ensure the effective reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through gas drainage ahead of mining. The drilling and drainage program for a site is integrated within the operations to action a “just-in-time” approach in line with the mine plan, much like development drainage in an underground mine. The Loop decarbonisation rig is compliant with Australian mining safety requirements. Loop can manage the drilling process, well field operations, and the integration and interactions with the operations, as well as feed into both internal and external reporting requirements.

Beneficial Use & Offtake

To reduce emissions on a site, the gas needs to be utilised. We assess and priotise the optimal use for the gas on site through marginal abatement cost curves. Working with our strategic partners, we can deliver benefical use solutions, such as CNG trucks or power generation. Depending on the site location, options also include offtake agreements.
